Some of us are working on getting some grant money to help sponsor development activities related to beefing up the existing open source library system (OSLS) products such as Koha and Evergreen.  And others of us (okay, some of “us” are the same “us”) are working on developing some of the support infrastructure we need as we consider migrations to an OSLS (how do we evaluate our library to see if its right for us?  what does an RFP that includes an OSLS option differ from the RFP we’ve been using for the last 10 years??? who will help us get our data out of our current product????  who can we get tech support from once we’ve got this thing going?????)….

At any rate, every grant application has a statement of need section, so I’d like to hear from you about that.  Why are you thinking about an open source library system?  What is the problem that you expect to solve?  How big is the problem of your current ILS?
